The airpark

Kaunas FEZ shares the common border of 3 kilometres with Kaunas International Airport. All land plots situated along this border are reserved for the development of companies related to the aviation industry.

Having in mind that the area of FEZ and the runway in the airport are going to be connected by a taxiway, the territory of the Airpark has become especially attractive to airline bases, aircraft ground handling companies, companies working in the aviation industry (airplane assembling, aircraft testing and sales) since they can simultaneously acquire access to the runway and make an efficient use of tax and customs incentives offered by the FEZ.

The railway line is planned to be laid from the Kaunas Intermodal Terminal in Palemonas to the Airpark. Therefore air, land and railway routes should be combined within the territory of the Airpark quite shortly.

POSSIBILITIES FOR THE AVIATION INDUSTRY IN LITHUANIA

80 percent of all maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) in the Baltics are performed in Lithuania.  In this sector the competences of our country are easily proven by the development of the leading players involved in this particular market. At present “FL Technics”, the biggest independent operator in the region, has a team of more than 1000 professional specialists working in Lithuania. Meanwhile the development of “Ryanair” has already exceeded the initial plans twice.

Highly qualified specialists should be regarded as one of the biggest advantages for Lithuania in this particular sector. According to the data obtained by the Ministry of Education and Science for the period from 2014 to 2015, 58 percent of engineering students have selected transportation and mechanical engineering as their dominant study areas. In 2015 more than 500 students have chosen to go into aviation studies.
