Smart metering device factory started its work in Kaunas Free Economic Zone

The official launch of Axioma Metering factory manufacturing smart ultrasonic water and heat metering devices took place in Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) on the 8th of February. Investments in plant construction and equipment amount to almost 12 million Euro; a few additional million were invested in the research and development of new smart products.

“I believe that the key to Lithuanian success can be described in three concepts: high added value, innovation, and export. All of that can be found here, in Axioma Metering, where manufacturing processes are automated, management is progressive and products are innovative. And the most fascinating thing is that the founders of the factory are moving forward propelled by global ambitions,” Marius Skuodis, the Vice Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania said.

The construction of the plant in Kaunas FEZ plot, the size of 1.6 hectares, was completed by the end of 2018. The industrial – 5000 square meters – and administrative – 1000 square meters – spaces belonging to the smart metering device manufacturer will accommodate 200 employees at first, and then the number is anticipated rise. In one of the most modern Lithuanian factories, the processes that require special precision are carried out by robots. According to the company’s managers, the new factory is equipped with the most advanced technology and solutions in order to remain competitive in the global market for decades.

Axioma Metering is not the only creator and manufacturer of ultrasonic metering devices in the Baltic countries, but also, according to the CEO of the company Ignas Vosylius, is aiming to be among the top five manufacturers in Europe in this field by 2020. The export of the company’s accounting devices amounts to 70 percent of turnover. Main countries for export are Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Latvia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

It is planned that the new Kaunas FEZ plant will produce about 1.3 million accounting devices per year, including the manufacturing of smart water meters that are being developed currently. “In addition to the new plant, we have acquired a plot that will accommodate a new subdivision by 2021, which will increase the plant’s capacity to four million units a year,” Andrius Janukonis a CEO of Icor that owns Axioma Metering said during the official launch. He also added, “I truly hope that our devices will promote Lithuania like Apple products promote the US.”

Axioma Metering is one of the 32 investors currently working in Kaunas FEZ. In the near future, other companies are anticipated to launch their operation in Kaunas FEZ. Among them, furniture and unique interior design solution factory Fitsout; Freda is carrying out the construction of solid furniture factory Geras baldų fabrikas and its logistics warehouse; the construction of factory of German company Continental producing electronic components is planned to be completed in 2019. The new overpass which will be built over Kaunas-Jonava route A6, beside the main entrance to the fast-growing business area, will not only enhance the appeal of Kaunas FEZ but will also facilitate communication for current and future investors. It is planned to set up a crossroad of different levels at this junction – an overpass and a connecting road which are expected to be opened by the end of 2020.
